I have iMac High Sierra OS. I have an Epson WF-3640 All-In-One connected via Network Router Ethernet.
The Activity Monitor shows an Epson associated process running all the time called 'Epson Scanner Monitor'. The application is constantly active using about 1.5% of my CPU even when the printer is off. If I quite the app it will restart the next time I log in. Does anyone know the purpose of this app? Have not found anything useful on the internet. The app is located in Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/EPSON/Scanner/ScannerMonitor/Epson Scanner Monitor.app

Why doesn’t my scanner work on macOS Big Sur
Starting with macOS Big Sur (10.15), Apple required all software to be 64-bit. This was a problem for many scanner drivers since they were written in the era when drivers were 32-bit.
Apple also required that all software be ‘notorized’. Since many manufacturers didn’t want to go back and re-notorize their old software, it wasn’t possible to use their drivers.
VueScan works differently. We independently reverse engineer the scanner drivers so that you can keep using your scanner, even if there isn’t a driver available from the manufacturer.

VueScan Scanner Software is recognized as the best scanner software for macOS because of it’s compatability with over 6000 scanners. That way you don’t need to find and download individual scanner drivers, especially because on macOS Big Sur so many manufacturers didn’t release updated drivers.
